Wilderness Camp Visit PDF Print E-mail

This is a summer excursion dedicated to Camp Tamok. Seated together inside a lavvu (Sami herdsmen’s tent), you will hear folk tales and learn about Sami culture and history. Camp Tamok is located in the Tamok Valley, inside one of the largest wilderness areas in Europe. At the camp you will find a husky yard, several timber cabins and Sami tents, and toilet facilities. You will learn about handling of half wild reindeer and the seasonal  moving of the reindeer flock. Ask what ever question you might have about the Sami history or the way of life in general for the people up here in the Arctic North. Our guide will be proud to share his tales and knowledge. A hot meal based on Sami traditions or the local Arctic Ocean kitchen will be served during the visit. You can do a small hike in the area together with the guide if you choose. However, this excursion is suitable for people of all ages and of any physical condition, also guests with physical handicaps.

We pick you up by bus or minibus in the city centre of Tromsø, by the Rica Ishavshotel. The city centre is very compact so you will easily find Rica Ishavshotel and the pick-up point.
